The richest and most annoying man in the world Elon Musk has announced on Twitter that he is creating an AI game studio to, in his words: "make games great again". Are you actually fucking kidding.

Elon has been pushing AI hard lately, with his company xAI desperately trying to play catch-up with OpenAI and Google Gemini, and introducing Grok on the desecrated remains of what was Twitter in a bid to turn it into an "everything app" similar to WeChat in China.

There are not many details on the company so far; not even the name has been announced, although knowing Elon it will probably contain the letter "X" in it, a name he's bestowed to many of his business ventures, Twitter and even his own son. The only thing he has stated is to "make games great again", obviously aping his boyfriend Trump's infamous political campaign slogan, despite the fact that a lot of games are mostly fine the way they are; human made with human hands.

Although the current AAA gaming industry is far from perfect (Concord), indie games have been better than ever and several of them have become cultural phenomena, like Five Nights at Freddy's, Among Us and Pizza Tower among many others. Being backed by the richest man in the world is far from indie.

Another problem is that... well... AI games are not good. Like, at all. One of the first fully AI-generated games made waves across the internet recently, a blatant copy (as in almost completely visually identical) of Minecraft called Oasis. The game was mocked for being sluggish, unoriginal and almost incomprehensible. I mean.. if the image below is one of your calling cards, then it's safe to say AI can't handle this sort of thing.

It is also worth pointing out that this is not Elon's first venture into video games. In fact, it goes way back to 1984 when he was just 12 years old. He coded a little video game called Blastar, a simple space-shooter in the vein of Space Invaders, only a bit more crap. To be fair, it is rather impressive that little baby Elon could code a game all by himself in 1984, so I will not make fun of him for that.

It all begs the question though - why not just code the games himself instead of using AI? He was capable of it in 1984, he should be way more capable of it now. Sadly however, Elon is too busy ignoring his children and grinding Diablo 4 to put any actual effort into anything.
